The last thing I'll say about this election *
In 1992, MTV's "Rock the Vote" campaign seemed like a pretty good idea: Wake up the sleepy college generation and turn them on to the democratic process. But they're not helping themselves with their actions. It's too easy to dismiss the organization if it doesn't adhere to objectivity. Most college-age kids are Democrats, and that's fine, but encouraging the political process should mean more than placard-style platitudes. They can do better, and should do better.
* (Last two cent piece:) Methinks the country has never needed a third party as badly as it does right now. I want to pull a lever that doesn't exist.

Just learned this one:
Election predictor that is 100% correct going back to 1929 - when the Redskins win their last home game prior to election night, the incumbent has won 100% of the time. When they lose, the challenger has won 100% of the time.
The Redskins are home against the Packers 10/31/04.

Re: Edwards Video. Edwards apparently has done his homework. That's what it says to me.
Go back to the debate between Richard Nixon and JFK. Read the debate, and it seems Nixon won. Watch the debate, and it seems JFK won.
Story behind the story - Nixon dressed for the debate as he would for dressing for an average day at work. He had a slight cold, had bags under his eyes, and generally looked under the weather and spoke like he didn't feel well.
JFK looked much better. He work makeup. Was his message any better? Not when you read it. Did people feel JFK won the debate? Yes.
Edwards did his homework. What's wrong with that?

There are a lot of things wrong with John Edwards that the standard media isn't interested in discussing. But a grown man carrying his own compact is one that I get a kick out of. A man his age tussing his hair *that repeatedly* like the homecoming king, in his own compact...not my kinda guy. Likening it to Nixon/JFK is a bit off the mark. The point is, he looked just as "put together" before he massaged his 'look' over and over again. The bigger issue I have a problem with is he's going around the country talking about tort reform, which is incredibly important and needed, yet he has no credibility in this area. He has made tens of millions winning frivolous lawsuits. Look at his record - it's full of bad cases and peppered lightly with a few deserved ones which he likes to refer to.
He's plastic. I don't him. He's too easy to see through. And what the HELL is that thing on his lip?

My Nixon/Kennedy analogy is dead on. I think your point was that he's fussing with his appearance. My point was that if you are on TV, it's important. Find me a candidate who doesn't wear makeup. I dare ya!
Another example would be Ronald Regan. This guy was very concerned and paid quite a bit of attention to his appearance, and it worked damn well for him. He had a bigger hurdle to overcome because of his age. He did it well, though, by paying close attention to his appearance. He's an actor, and don't think he didn't learn a thing or two from his previous career.
For example, when he went to Russia to meet Gorbachev. Gorbachev wore a coat and hat, and generally looked like an old man. Regan knew that he would be on TV in front of all of the USSR for the first time. He wore no overcoat, no hat, and a great suit. Plenty of care was taken on his appearance for this event, especially because Russian citizens would see him and not hear him. Amazing what that did. He projected a powerful, strong America with his appearance and demeanor alone. A bit later, Gorbachev decided both countries better do away with ALL nukes, which was part of Ronnies overall plan anyway.
RE: Rock the Vote - look at their sponsors. Have they no shame? It's a great way to put an "honest" face on a clearly extremist liberal agenda. Sickening, isn't it?

Todd I agree with what you're saying about presentation. I said "off the mark" because that's not the issue I was addressing. It's that the WAY he did it that I thought was funny. He brushed aside the groomer to do it himself the same way he does it every morning. The WAY his grooms himself, I BELIEVE, reveals a vanity I don't care for. I'm not talking about the importance of appearance on television. That goes without saying.

Oh come on, Bran, "vanity" is a word used by the frumpy, ugly set to describe someone who "takes pride in his or her appearance." Besides, he needs to over compensate for his wife's unfortunate mein. ouch.
